Many years ago, driving on I-75 in Florida, I noticed the pavement was heavily “cross-ribbed”, enabling heavy rain water to flow sideways off the road.  But this approach to treating the surface also caused a light vibration to be transmitted up through the steering wheel.  This was to be expected, but what wasn’t were the billboards depicting vibrating driver’s hands, with local re-alignment service offered as a fix!  Indeed, there are some who’s business is to thrive on problems, even if those problems do not actually exist.

In this regard, I think of the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, erecting their billboards at the slightest vibration along the way, presuming to align a shaky society according to the only malady they seem able or willing to recognize.

The killing of Trayvon Martin is a tragedy.  Yet so is the violent loss of young African-American life seen daily in Chicago.  Still, for some reason, these deaths are largely uncommented upon by the aforementioned “profits of injustice”.

It’s amazing that Mr. Sharpton still shows his face after his horrific exploitation of the Tawana Brawley case.  Not to be outdone, Mr. Jackson’s curious disbursement of Rainbow Coalition funds is also well documented.  Yet, these individuals presume once again to pull the race card, because, in point of decades long established fact, the race card is the only one they have in their stacked deck.  Such an approach sets the stage for mindless violence, but it keeps them in the public eye, which, while it may be terrible for the country, is great for business.

Forget the fact that our President is part African-American, our Attorney General is from an ethnic minority, as are untold thousands more eminently empowered individuals in our society.  Forget the fact that George Zimmerman is half Hispanic!  With skillful editing of a 911 call, the New York Times and NBC News were able to turn these proceedings into a “Black” and “White” affair, a “race-case”, where agenda took precedence over sound journalism.

Reprehensible?  For sure.  But also good for boosting circulation and bolstering shrinking viewership.

Perhaps this is why, stepping apart from the fomented feeding frenzy, citing a deceptive affidavit, deliberate malice and the willful withholding of exculpatory evidence, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz has called for the disbarring of the Prosecutor in this case — an individual who circumnavigated a Grand Jury’s perusal of evidence as she proceeded straight to court against the defendant.  Mr. Dershowitz is hardly a conservative, but he does seem to have color blind character, sorely missing in those just itching to use Mr. Martin’s demise for their own purposes.

How is it a verdict arrived at after more than 16 hours of deliberation by a sequestered jury can be so instantly disrespected by some?  In part, it’s because of a trial by media phenomenon, where the acceptable result can only be the one that coincides with the broadcast narrative, regardless of the facts and testimony presented in open court.

I believe it is this very approach that represents the greatest injustice we all may have to deal with, as it will form the basis for more injury and potential loss of life in the days ahead.

As a clergyman, I think the Sharptons and Jacksons in the Body of Christ are a dangerous embarrassment.  Their high-profile pontificating is a shameless exploitation of a deceased young man and his grieving family.  The presumption that they speak for anyone, but themselves, can only pass muster in a media beset by amnesia and a society willing to stereotype and patronize the people these charlatans pretend to represent.

In the weeks immediately ahead, I pray for the Lord’s wisdom, calling us each into a responsible discipleship, and permanently away from the manifestation of a mob mentality that can only diminish the legacy and memory of a young soul whose earthly life has already been taken away.

As it pertains to us being a healthy nation and a country blessed by a mature citizenry, the jury is still out, but a happy and healing verdict, by God’s grace, is still well within reach.

The decision is ours.

NSA

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev killed and maimed random human beings, in the name of their approach to “faith”.

My niece, and her family, were about a minute away from potentially tragic, lifelong, or permanent harm.

In the meantime, and concurrently, lots of people have been rightfully concerned about the NSA’s prying apart our right to privacy.

The Russians informed our government that the Tsarnaev brothers were trouble.

So, with all this surveillance intended to protect us, how is it these two individuals, wearing the fluorescent orange paint of freely offered foreign intelligence, managed to perpetrate their horribly inhuman treachery?

Some people are paranoid when it comes to the NSA’s capability.

Does its ability, in deference to political correctness, only extend to watching good American citizens and allies, or has it been effectively and dispassionately directed elsewhere, at those who would do all of us real harm?
